Sabrina Carpenter and Margaret Qualley Join Tom Holland in Fred Astaire Biopic
Sabrina Carpenter and Margaret Qualley have officially landed key roles in the upcoming Fred Astaire film starring Tom Holland. Per Variety and MovieWeb, Carpenter will play legendary dancer Ginger Rogers, while Qualley will portray Astaire's older sister and original stage partner, Adele Astaire.
Tom Holland is set to play the iconic Fred Astaire himself. The project will be directed by Paul King, known for his work on "Paddington" and "Wonka," from a script by Steven Levenson.
According to a statement from King reported by MovieWeb, the film will focus on the early careers of Fred and Adele Astaire, a partnership the director said has been lost to history. He expressed excitement about tackling the project with Holland, Qualley, and Carpenter.
The screenplay takes its story from a 2012 book about the Astaire siblings by author Kathleen Riley. The film has the involvement of Astaire's estate, including his daughter, Ava Astaire McKenzie, who offered a statement of support for the project.
Despite the backing, the biopic has faced some criticism, as Fred Astaire was famously opposed to having a film made about his life.
