Sam Register Exits as Top Warner Animation Executive
Sam Register is stepping down from his leadership position overseeing Warner Bros.' major animation divisions, per Variety. Warner Bros. Television Group chair Channing Dungey announced the move in a staff memo, stating the two had mutually agreed not to renew his contract, which expires next week.
Register confirmed his departure, saying he was grateful for Dungey's support and that it was "time for me to move on to the next chapter." He thanked colleagues, noting they had "built some incredible things together."
Dungey acknowledged the news would be a surprise and that a search for his replacement is underway. In the interim, business operations will continue under Matt Matzkin, while creative department heads will lead their respective teams.
The Hollywood Reporter notes Register ran the main Warner Bros. Animation studio for 18 years, later also taking charge of Cartoon Network Studios and the Hanna-Barbera studio in Europe. His career at Warner Bros. Discovery spanned over three decades, beginning at Cartoon Network in 1994 where he worked on series like "Ben 10" and "Chowder."
