Samson's Studio Liquid Swords Declares Bankruptcy Six Months After Launch

The studio behind the troubled open-world game Samson has collapsed. Liquid Swords has filed for bankruptcy following an order from the Stockholm District Court, per reports from Kotaku and Rock Paper Shotgun.

Swedish news site Breakit, via Gametalk, reported the court issued the bankruptcy order on October 12. According to the reports, nearly 30 developers at the studio have not been paid since August 2026.

Liquid Swords was founded in 2020 by Christofer Sundberg, a co-founder of Avalanche Studios, known for the Just Cause series. Samson, released on Steam in April 2026, was its first and only title. The game was heavily criticized at launch for bugs and performance problems, prompting an apology from Sundberg on Steam.

Despite the financial turmoil, the team continued working. Kotaku notes the game received a patch on October 8 and launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles in September.

The administrator for the bankruptcy is now seeking a buyer for Liquid Swords and its assets, which includes the Samson IP. A final decision on a sale is expected soon, which will determine the future of any further updates for the game.
