Secret Wars production reportedly pushed to 2027, threatening release date

The Avengers may be assembling a little later than planned. Per /Film, production on the next big Marvel finale, 'Avengers: Secret Wars,' is now reportedly not expected to start until January 2027.
The scoop comes from industry insiders and has been confirmed by the outlet's own sources, though Disney has yet to make an official announcement. The delay is partly attributed to directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who are currently finishing post-production on the preceding film, 'Avengers: Doomsday.'
If this new production timeline holds, it makes the movie's current 2027 release date highly unlikely. Marvel had planned for 'Secret Wars' to be its sole 2027 film, mirroring the one-year gap between 'Infinity War' and 'Endgame.'
A delay would create a domino effect for the studio's entire schedule. The MCU has already announced a packed slate for 2028, including a new 'X-Men' reboot, a Ryan Gosling 'Ghost Rider' movie, and 'Black Panther III.' All of those projects are meant to follow 'Secret Wars,' which is designed to conclude the current Multiverse Saga.
With Marvel's recent box office struggles outside of Spider-Man, the outlet notes the studio needs 'Doomsday' to be a hit. A long gap between that film's December 2026 release and a delayed 'Secret Wars' could risk losing audience momentum.
