Sega teases House of the Dead: Reawakened arcade game with a VR mansion

Sega is hinting at a new arcade shooter in the House of the Dead series that will fully embrace virtual reality. The tease came via a short video on the Sega Amusements YouTube channel, per VGC.

The game is reportedly titled House of the Dead: Reawakened. Attractions Magazine, which broke the news, describes a massive cabinet built to resemble a Gothic manor house. Its centerpiece is an 85-inch screen displaying a front door, flanked by two smaller vertical screens made to look like windows.

Players physically step through that virtual door to enter a VR play space. While spectators see the exterior display, one or two players don VR headsets and use haptic feedback gun controllers for a co-op experience.

The elaborate cabinet also features dynamic light effects, a functioning clock, and surround sound, according to the report. The game itself is said to contain three missions and was developed using Unreal Engine 5.

Sega plans to showcase House of the Dead: Reawakened at the IAAPA Expo for amusement parks this November.
