Shirley MacLaine jokes about 'Sweet Charity' flop in rare video
Shirley MacLaine made a surprise video appearance at 92 years old, per Variety, and used the moment to poke fun at one of her own films.
The legendary actress recorded a message for the Southampton Playhouse ahead of its screening of the 1969 Bob Fosse musical 'Sweet Charity'. MacLaine encouraged viewers to appreciate the effort that went into the movie, before adding a candid aside. She confided that the film was not a commercial success.
MacLaine starred in the feature, which was Fosse's directorial debut. The cast also included Sammy Davis Jr., Chita Rivera, and Ricardo Montalban.
The actress, who won a Best Actress Oscar for 'Terms of Endearment', was last seen on screen in the 2022 movie 'American Dreamer' and made a guest appearance on the Hulu series 'Only Murders in the Building'. Variety also reported last November that she is set to star in a road trip comedy called 'Lucy Boomer' with Ansel Elgort.
