Shonda Rhimes locks in new five-year creative partnership with Netflix

Shonda Rhimes locks in new five-year creative partnership with Netflix

Shonda Rhimes is staying put at Netflix. Per The Hollywood Reporter, she and her Shondaland banner have signed a fresh five-year overall deal with the streamer.

The new agreement, described as a creative partnership, expands beyond TV and film. It also covers the development of games, as well as live experiences and consumer products based on Shondaland's intellectual property.

Rhimes expressed her enthusiasm in a statement, thanking Netflix leadership for their continued trust. "I am so thankful to Ted [Sarandos], Bela [Bajaria] and the entire Netflix team for their continued partnership, trust and enthusiasm," she said.

The report notes this pact will run through 2031. It follows Rhimes's landmark move to Netflix from Disney in 2017 and a subsequent renewal in 2021.

The partnership has yielded major hits like Bridgerton, with its recent seasons ranking among Netflix's most-watched English-language series ever. Other Shondaland Netflix projects include Inventing Anna, The Residence, and several documentaries.
