Sirfetch'd and Pichu star in new Aardman stop-motion Pokémon series

A new Pokémon series is coming to Disney platforms, and it's getting a very specific look. Per Polygon, Aardman Animations, the studio behind Wallace & Gromit, is creating a stop-motion show titled 'Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu.'

The show will follow the two Pokémon on a quest through the Galar region, the setting of Pokémon Sword and Shield. According to an official synopsis, their noble missions to help other creatures often go awry, mixing peril and laughs as their friendship grows.

The series is scheduled to premiere on Disney XD and stream exclusively on Disney Plus sometime in 2027. The announcement is part of a larger deal that also brought the classic Pokémon anime, 'Pokémon the Series: The Beginning,' to Disney Plus in the U.S. and other markets.

Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis called the Aardman project a 'fresh way to experience' the world. Pokémon's director of original animation, Phil Rynda, stated that Aardman's work makes the Galar region feel tactile and immersive.
