Sony leading the charge for Michael B. Jordan's Battlefield movie
Sony Pictures is in talks to take the wheel on a big-screen adaptation of the Battlefield video game franchise, per Variety. The project has heavyweight talent attached, with Christopher McQuarrie set to write, direct, and produce, and Michael B. Jordan also on board as a producer.
According to MovieWeb, which cites a report from TheWrap, Sony is the frontrunner after a multi-studio bidding war. The outlet notes that while Jordan is attached to produce, he may also star, though that is not yet confirmed.
If Jordan does take a leading role, it's unclear which character or era he would inhabit. The Battlefield games have spanned settings from World War II to the Vietnam War and even the near future.
Electronic Arts, the publisher behind the Battlefield games, is involved with producer Jesse Stern. The film's primary competition might come from another military shooter adaptation: a Call of Duty movie is in the works at Paramount with a planned 2028 release date.
The Battlefield movie does not yet have a release date.
