Sorkin 'Never Occurred' to Him Eisenberg Wouldn't Return as Zuckerberg

Aaron Sorkin was so sure Jesse Eisenberg would return as Mark Zuckerberg that he didn't even consider the possibility he'd say no, according to a report in Variety. The director is making 'The Social Reckoning,' a 2026 follow-up to his 2010 film 'The Social Network.'

Sorkin told the outlet that the thought of Eisenberg not reprising his role 'never occurred' to him. The filmmaker admitted he was caught off guard when the actor ultimately declined the offer.

The director also claimed that the paycheck for the sequel was a 'disincentive' for Eisenberg, per Variety. Sorkin suggested the actor wasn't motivated by the money to return to the character.

Eisenberg played a young Mark Zuckerberg in the original, Oscar-winning film. The new movie, 'The Social Reckoning,' is scheduled for release in 2026.
