Sources Claim Ape Escape Revival Is in Development at Sonic Mania Studio

A new Ape Escape game is reportedly in the works, with the team behind Sonic Mania and Penny's Big Breakaway said to be leading the charge.

VGC reports that the revival is in development at Evening Star, the studio formed by key Sonic Mania creators. The report cites veteran journalist Jeff Gerstmann and VGC's own sources.

According to Gerstmann on his podcast, the project was only recently greenlit and is not close to release. He specified that an external studio, not PlayStation's internal Team Asobi, is handling it, and pointed to Evening Star.

VGC's sources also claim this is part of a broader PlayStation strategy to license classic franchises to smaller third-party studios. The outlet notes Sony previously did this with Everybody's Golf, which was licensed to Bandai Namco.

The same report mentions Sony is also planning a revival of the Killzone series, with a remaster or remake in early development. An Uncharted revival is also reportedly planned, though that one is said to be handled in-house by Naughty Dog.
