Squadron 42 Drops Flashy Trailer, Steam Page, and Massive Celebrity Cast

The long-gestating single-player game Squadron 42 has suddenly sprung back to life with a major info dump from developer Cloud Imperium Games, per reports from IGN, Eurogamer, and PC Gamer.

A new cinematic trailer showcases a mix of space combat, first-person shooter action, ship customization, and narrative moments. The game will let players choose between a male protagonist played by Ian Duncan or a female protagonist voiced by Alix Wilton Regan.

The cast list is packed with A-list talent, including stars from Star Wars, Sherlock Holmes, and The Crown. Performances from the ensemble were captured using full performance capture, which the studio says is integrated directly into gameplay.

Accompanying the trailer is a newly launched Steam page where players can now wishlist the title. The page lists a planned release window of Q2 2027 and system requirements, noting a hefty 150GB install size.

This new date follows a recent delay, which IGN reports was announced by Cloud Imperium head Chris Roberts. He reportedly stated he moved the game to avoid launching into the "attention buzz saw" of *Grand Theft Auto VI*.

Squadron 42 is a story-driven spin-off set in the same universe as the perpetually in-development multiplayer space sim Star Citizen, which crossed the $1 billion crowdfunding milestone earlier this year.
