Star Trek is pulling out all the stops for its 60th anniversary this September. Variety has the exclusive details on a global slate of fan events tied to the September 8 milestone.
In Los Angeles, the Autry Museum will host a free outdoor screening on September 8. It will feature the original series episode "The Man Trap" and an episode of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" called "Orders of Magnitude." The event will also have appearances from cast or crew, food trucks, and giveaways.
Across the United States, more than 750 theaters will run special screenings from September 4 through 8. These will show 4K restorations of classic Star Trek films alongside episodes from the original series.
Television will get in on the action, per Variety. "Entertainment Tonight" will air a special on September 7 with archival interviews. Game shows "The Price Is Right" and "Let's Make a Deal" will have Star Trek-themed episodes on September 8, and Nick at Nite will run a marathon of "The Big Bang Theory" episodes focused on the franchise.
The most ambitious event is a global effort to set a new record for the largest simultaneous Vulcan salute. The official attempt will happen on September 8 at the Science Museum in London during a free adult-only event.
