Star Wars Zero Company sales hit 1 million, Steam dominates
The new strategy game Star Wars Zero Company has reportedly sold around one million copies, according to an estimate from data firm Alinea Analytics. Per IGN, analyst Rhys Elliott shared the figures, noting that nearly 70% of those sales were on Steam.
Breaking down the platform split, Elliott estimated that 69.9% of sales came from Steam, with PlayStation accounting for 19.9% and Xbox consoles and PC making up the remaining 10.2%. According to his analysis, this performance has generated roughly $50 million in revenue since the game's launch last month.
The sales milestone comes amid a troubled backdrop for developer Bit Reactor. As reported by both IGN and Kotaku, the studio furloughed a significant portion of its staff just before launch, reportedly because it had nearly run out of money. Kotaku notes that only a skeleton crew remained to handle post launch support, with 80% of employees reportedly affected.
Elliott described the sales as "respectable for this genre" in a crowded market, even with the Star Wars brand. He also noted a regional limitation, telling IGN that the player base is overwhelmingly concentrated in Western markets. The game has reportedly seen little traction in Asia, a trend common for the franchise.
Neither publisher Electronic Arts nor Bit Reactor have commented on the sales figures or the status of the furloughed employees. With EA now a private company, it is not obligated to share financial data, so official confirmation is unlikely.
