State of Decay 3 closed beta tests begin later this year
State of Decay 3 is inviting more players into its zombie apocalypse later this year. According to IGN and Eurogamer, developer Undead Labs is expanding from alpha to closed beta testing, aiming to stress-test the game's large map and untethered multiplayer.
Creative Director Kevin Patzelt said the team will be bringing in more players over time, per statements reported by both outlets. He noted that if fans don't get in immediately, there will be more chances to join the tests throughout the year.
The news comes as Undead Labs separates from Xbox following Microsoft's restructuring. Eurogamer reports it's unclear who the studio's new owner will be, or if the game will still be a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass, though an official blog post mentioned it is still planned for the service.
The beta sign-up is now open. State of Decay 3 is scheduled to launch in 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
