State of Play roundup: every reveal from both streams, and all the trailers
PlayStation ran two shows back to back on Thursday: a fall State of Play that closed with ten minutes of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, then a State of Play Japan built around studios from Japan and Asia. Between them: a date for the end of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, launch dates for Until Dawn 2 and Metro 2039, a Maneater sequel, two new Konami games, the first look at the Resident Evil film, and a Double Fine game that shipped on PS5 the moment it was announced. Here is everything that mattered, with the trailers, drawn from PlayStation's own recap and the roundups at Game Informer, Destructoid and Dexerto.
The show opened with a film, not a game. Zach Cregger's Resident Evil retells the Raccoon City outbreak from the ground, following a medical courier through the city on its worst night, and the exclusive clip leans hard on the infected throwing themselves off rooftops. It is in theaters September 18.
Marvel's Wolverine got its launch trailer, twelve days out from its September 15 release on PS5. Insomniac packed it with the supporting cast: Jean Grey, Mystique, Sabretooth, Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, Bolivar Trask, and a Sentinel or two.
Ghost of Yotei is getting a Complete Edition on October 1, and with it Most Wanted, a wave-based combat survival mode with run-based bounty hunts and Jin Sakai as a playable fighter. The Japan stream added a narrative trailer for Echoes of Sekigahara, the story expansion that splits its time between present-day Ezo and flashbacks to the battle itself.
Capcom showed the first full trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the 2027 expansion. It introduces the Skybound Eyrie, a floating hunting ground, a new boost action, and Elder Dragons including Kushala Daora and a newly revealed Gundoraja. A playable demo is coming to Tokyo Game Show.
Metro 2039 has a date: February 4, 2027. 4A Games ran PS5 Pro gameplay through a flooded Moscow and an apartment block firefight, and the villain is a familiar face. Hunter, once Artyom's ally, now rules the Novoreich.
Maneater 2 is real. Tripwire, with Demiurge Studios, is moving the bull shark from the bayou to a luxury island resort built for chaos, waterslides and boardwalk included, with underwater caverns beneath it. It is due in 2027.
Pearl Abyss announced Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, a story expansion for October 15 that adds diving suits, submerged ruins, naval combat and home building.
LEGO and PlayStation revealed a 1,911-piece replica of the original PlayStation at close to 1:1 scale, controller and memory cards included, on sale October 1.
Final Fantasy Resonance turns the story of the mobile game Brave Exvius into an HD-2D console RPG, arriving October 22. The trailer ends with Sephiroth stepping out of the flames as a boss, and a demo of the first chapter went live during the show.
Bandai Namco dated Gundam Rogue Orbit for March 5, 2027. You play the pilot RE-X, with handler Sophia and a Haro at your side, in a fast mecha action game with deep suit customization and tactical skills. The Japan stream had producer Yuya Tomiyama walk through new weapon types and MOD skins.
Hunter's Moon, from Twin Swans, is a first-person folk horror game set across a single night in 17th-century England, with witch hunters processing through the fields in animal skulls. It arrives in late October.
Uncanyon, from Graceful Decay and Annapurna Interactive, is a puzzle adventure about converging parallel realities, with a protagonist named Sonia crossing watercolor cliffs and crumbling temples. It is due in 2027.
Double Fine's Keeper, the wordless adventure about a walking lighthouse and its seabird companion, was announced for PS5 and released the same moment. It had been an Xbox exclusive until the studio's split from Microsoft.
Konami brought two new games. Rev. NOiR is an RPG about an amnesiac boy named Asch and his companion Fine trying to stop the lightfall, a catastrophe that kills everything it touches; the trailer ends on a full-party fight against a boss called The Visionary. It is due in 2027, and the Japan stream added a story trailer.
Rhapsody in Scarlet is the other one: a fast action game set in a jazz-soaked, monster-haunted 1920s New York, starring a spellcaster named Ellie with a spectral wolf at her side and customizable combos. No date yet. Producer Takanori Murayama showed a story trailer in the Japan stream.
Housemarque's Saros is getting a free Zenith update later this year with Overlord Rush, a boss gauntlet mode, Eclipse Layers as a New Game Plus, and new accessibility options.
Gran Turismo 7's Spec IV update arrives in two parts, October and December: SUGO Circuit and Autumn Ring, twelve cars, drift trials, and a Family Mode.
Until Dawn 2 lands January 28, 2027, with pre-orders opening September 10. The Dead True crew, a team of paranormal influencers, investigates Blackwood Sanitorium and a tropical island full of ancient secrets, ritual mechanics decide who lives, and Dr. Hill is back.
Sony also revealed two Grand Theft Auto VI limited edition DualSense controllers in Vice City colors, out November 19 alongside the game, with pre-orders from September 10.
Then the closer. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the end of the remake trilogy, launches April 8, 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch 2 and PC. The ten-minute deep dive covered the whole party, early access to the Highwind, chocobo combat and traversal, parachute drops, and Wutai's Baihu Ward with a Queen's Blood subplot.
State of Play Japan followed straight after, hosted by voice actor Yuki Kaji. Cygames opened its new CygamesEdge label with Where the Seeds Fall, an action adventure about a soldier and a Fell Child descending the World Tree, dated November 5.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, in which Monster Wranglers explore an alternate world, launches December 3.
Fate/Extra Record, the full remake of the Moon Holy Grail War with a reworked Command Card battle system, is dated January 28, 2027 on PS5 and PS4.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 was confirmed for 2027, with custom heroes and personal fighting styles at the center again.
Digimon Story Time Stranger is getting a 2027 expansion, A Hero's Eternal Legacy, with a new protagonist, a new partner and around fifty new Digimon.
Daba: Land of Water Scar, from Dark Star Games under the China Hero Project, follows a clayman through a drought-stricken world and is due in spring 2027.
CONQ: Crown of No Quarter is a large-scale medieval warfare game with sieges and factions, revealed for PS5 with no date.
Two demos went live during the show. SlashZero is a side-scrolling action roguelike due in spring 2027 with a time-limited demo out now, and Stupid Never Dies, a zombie action game where you steal monster abilities, has a demo ahead of its October 21 release.
The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes is the anime's first console game, a roguelite action title with an original story, due in 2027.
WPCA: World Phasebound Control Authority is an action RPG set in Seoul where Containment Agents deal with supernatural outbreaks. It is the furthest out of anything shown, at 2028.
Sloclap's Rematch gets a Blue Lock crossover in Season 5 on September 24, bringing the Egoists onto the pitch.
And the rest: Sword Art Online's Echoes of Aincrad gets a Genesis Maidens story expansion this winter. PlayStation Plus adds Mycopunk, the four-player co-op looter shooter, to the Game Catalog later this year, and the Premium classics line picks up Mega Man X: Command Mission in September with Dino Crisis 2 and the original Ratchet & Clank to follow.
