Stephen King's London Horror 'Crouch End' Becomes Prime Video Series
Prime Video is adapting a Stephen King story set in London. Per Variety, the streamer has greenlit a six-part limited series based on the 1980 short story "Crouch End." This will be the first King adaptation produced in the UK.
The series follows a global movie star, Doris Freeman, who tells a London police inspector her husband vanished due to strange phenomena. Inspector Ted Vetter must then determine if she's a murderer or if something supernatural is at play.
The story is a Lovecraft-inspired tale originally published in a Cthulhu Mythos anthology. It will be adapted by writer Paul Tomalin and directed by Tom Shankland. The project is being produced by Mammoth Screen and Fifth Season, with casting already underway.
Nicole Clemens of Prime Video said the team is excited to translate King's eerie London story to the screen with this creative group. Tomalin stated that King's prose has haunted him since he first read it, calling the adaptation a dream project. Director Shankland, a self-described King super-fan, said the series aims to be cinematic and thought-provoking.
