Stephen King's The Stand miniseries soars to top five on Apple TV charts

A decades-old Stephen King adaptation is making a surprising comeback, per ScreenRant. According to data from FlixPatrol, the 1994 four-part miniseries of King's post-apocalyptic novel 'The Stand' has rocketed to the number four spot on the Apple TV store's Top 20 TV shows chart in the United States.

The series, which originally aired on ABC, just re-entered the chart this week. It now ranks above several modern hits and classic shows, including 'The Wire', 'Game of Thrones', and 'I Love Lucy'. Only three shows rank higher: 'Rome', 'The Sopranos', and chart leader 'Twin Peaks'.

ScreenRant notes that, according to JustWatch, this 1994 adaptation is not available on any streaming service in the US. Its current popularity is entirely driven by video-on-demand purchases through storefronts like Apple TV.

The resurgence of this version arrives as a new adaptation is in the works. A 'Stand' movie is reportedly in development at Paramount, with director Doug Liman attached to the project. A more recent nine-episode limited series adaptation was released on CBS All Access, now Paramount+, in 2020.
