According to TVLine, the first season finale of "Stuart Fails To Save the Universe" stranded its main quartet in a void, then hurled them into what looked like the real world. They found themselves on the set of their own TV show, confronting actors playing them, a twist co-creator Chuck Lorre called "like being back in time."
Kevin Sussman and Lauren Lapkus told TVLine filming the scene was surreal, with Lapkus noting the strangeness of seeing another performer act as her character. Sussman speculated that Season 2 could even follow those fictional actors' versions of the characters.
The finale also left a major mystery unsolved: an unknown entity had been trying to contact Stuart across universes. When asked if they had an answer, the creators were cagey. "Each of the three of us know, we're each holding a different idea in our head," Bill Prady told the outlet.
On the production side, the team revealed they built two entire sets to pull off the finale's shift to a multi-camera sitcom format, complete with a live studio audience for one scene. The writers' room for Season 2 is already back at work, per TVLine, aiming for a January or February production start with a hopeful 2027 premiere.
Lorre said the goal is to write all ten Season 2 episodes before filming begins, allowing other departments to prepare. He also expressed a hope to return to Comic-Con with the show next year.
