Taika Waititi says his long-gestating Star Wars film is 'on ice'

Taika Waititi has confirmed his Star Wars movie is officially on hold. Per Variety, the director revealed the project has been shelved while promoting his new film, Klara and the Sun.
Speaking to Inverse, Waititi was blunt about the film's status. "I hate to break this to you, but we're going to actually put it on ice," he said. Waititi added that his publicist told him not to say more at that moment.
The director indicated he and Lucasfilm are now working on a different project. He also noted he has several other movies in development, joking that "ice ages do come to an end."
Back in January, Waititi had described trying to capture the fun of the original Star Wars films, saying his take needed to be "a little different." Former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had previously said the project was "still somewhat alive."
Waititi's movie has been in development since 2020.
