The Batman Part II production halted as director Matt Reeves steps away

The Bat-signal has dimmed again, at least for now. Warner Bros. and DC Studios have paused production on the superhero sequel "The Batman Part II," according to Variety.

A representative confirmed the temporary halt, stating, "Production on 'The Batman Part II' has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter." The statement, also reported by MovieWeb, added that Reeves has the studio's full support.

The film has already weathered multiple delays. As /Film notes, its release date has shifted several times, currently landing on February 18, 2028. Per Deadline, it's too early to know if this latest pause will affect that date.

Filming had been underway since June 2026, as reported by MovieWeb, with a cast including returning star Robert Pattinson and newcomers Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan. Details on their roles remain under wraps.

The pause comes during a period of corporate upheaval, with /Film noting the recent merger between Warner Bros. and Paramount. Despite the uncertainty, the outlet reports expectations that Reeves' sequel will ultimately be completed.
