The Housemaid Is Now HBO Max's Top Movie, Knocking Out Backrooms

Sydney Sweeney's thriller 'The Housemaid' has shot to the number one spot on HBO Max's movie chart, per FlixPatrol data reported by /Film. The film claimed the top position in the U.S. on October 11, 2026, and held it through the next day.

It dethroned the long-running chart-topper 'Backrooms' from Kane Parsons. The movie also jumped ahead of 'Evil Dead Burn', which had been dominating since its own streaming debut earlier in October.

This streaming surge comes after the film's successful theatrical run last December, where it grossed over $400 million. A sequel has already been greenlit by Lionsgate.

However, the follow-up faces a potential casting hurdle. Amanda Seyfried, who played Nina Winchester, is not yet confirmed to return, as the sequel's source material focuses on a new story with a different family.

Viewers eager for the next chapter won't see it until late 2027.
