The Love Hypothesis trailer drops for Prime Video's STEM romance
Prime Video has released the official trailer for its film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's bestseller, The Love Hypothesis. The Hollywood Reporter details the plot, which follows Ph.D. candidate Olive, played by Lili Reinhart, who impulsively kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen, played by Tom Bateman, to make her best friend think she's moved on.
The pair then agree to a fake dating scheme, per the trailer. Olive hopes it will free her friend to pursue a crush, while Adam thinks having a serious girlfriend might convince Stanford to renew his grant.
Their arrangement shocks peers who see Adam as "Dr. Evil," but the lines between performance and reality soon begin to blur. The film is directed by Claire Scanlon from a screenplay by Sarah Rothschild.
JoBlo notes the movie is part of Prime Video's "Obsession is in Session" YA initiative. At a recent event, Reinhart called the project a beautiful story about love over hate that she hopes feels timeless, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Love Hypothesis will begin streaming globally on Prime Video on September 23.
