The Odyssey passes The Dark Knight to become Nolan's top US earner
Christopher Nolan's epic adaptation of Homer's poem, The Odyssey, has reportedly claimed its final major box office milestone for the director. Per Deadline, the film is projected to earn $18.5 million domestically over its sixth weekend.
That haul will push its total US earnings to $538 million. According to ScreenRant, this means the movie has now surpassed the $535 million domestic total of Nolan's 2008 film The Dark Knight.
This achievement makes The Odyssey the highest-grossing Christopher Nolan film ever in North America. ScreenRant notes this was the last significant all-time box office record for Nolan that the film had not yet broken.
The movie is also set to enter the domestic top 20 highest-grossing films of all time, knocking The Dark Knight from the number 20 spot. The outlet reports the film's weekend-to-weekend drop was only 22%, suggesting strong audience retention as it continues its theatrical run.
