The Odyssey sets November date for digital and 4K Blu-ray release
Christopher Nolan's epic 'The Odyssey' is coming home. According to reports from Variety and JoBlo, the film will be available to rent or buy on digital platforms starting November 17. A 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release will launch on the same day.
This home release follows a lengthy theatrical run that began on July 17, mirroring the 123-day exclusive window used for Nolan's previous film 'Oppenheimer'. Per Variety, the movie has grossed approximately $1.35 billion globally, which makes it the top-earning R-rated movie ever, beating the record held by 'Deadpool & Wolverine'.
The film's box office was boosted by IMAX screenings, which contributed $257 million, a figure noted by both Variety and JoBlo as a record for the format. The runtime is a hefty 2 hours and 52 minutes.
Universal Pictures has not yet detailed what special features will be included on the digital or physical releases. /Film speculates that given Nolan's famed use of practical effects, behind-the-scenes material will likely be a major component.
The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, with a supporting cast including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya. In a review cited by Variety, critic Guy Lodge wrote that the film is 'more sensually than emotionally felt' despite Damon's 'bone-weary turn.'
