The Odyssey Sprints to Christopher Nolan's Biggest Global Debut Ever

Christopher Nolan's new film, "The Odyssey," has stormed the box office with an epic $264 million global opening, per Variety. The film's $124.5 million domestic haul marks the biggest live-action debut of the year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This R-rated, nearly three-hour mythological epic is now Nolan's highest-grossing global launch, TheWrap reports, opening a staggering 46% higher than his previous Oscar winner, "Oppenheimer." It also marks his best non-franchise opening, as noted by JoBlo, easily surpassing his non-Batman films.

The performance proves audiences will still flock to original, non-franchise spectacles when they're delivered by a top-tier filmmaker. The debut revitalized the summer box office in one fell swoop.
