The Odyssey Surpasses The Avengers at Global Box Office
Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" has officially outgrossed Marvel's 2012 blockbuster "The Avengers" at the worldwide box office, according to a report from /Film.
Over the weekend, the film added $14.3 million domestically and a significant $48.6 million from international markets. This push brought its total global earnings to $1.552 billion, moving it past "The Avengers" lifetime gross of $1.52 billion, unadjusted for inflation.
With this milestone, "The Odyssey" now ranks as the 14th highest-grossing film of all time worldwide. Per the outlet, this makes it Nolan's second massive hit in a row, following "Oppenheimer."
The report notes this also elevates Nolan past Marvel directors Joe and Anthony Russo in terms of total box office, placing him third behind only James Cameron and Steven Spielberg among active directors.
The film had previously taken the R-rated box office record from "Deadpool & Wolverine." /Film suggests it is now on track to potentially surpass "Jurassic World" ($1.67 billion) to become Universal Pictures' highest-grossing release ever.
