The Simpsons Game Reappears on PC After Nearly Two Decades

The 2007 title The Simpsons Game has been locked on its original consoles for nearly 19 years. According to a report by ScreenRant, that's finally changed thanks to a dedicated fan project.

A recompilation effort has successfully ported the Xbox 360 version of the game to run natively on PC. This method, similar to projects for other classic games, bypasses emulation by working directly with the game's source code. Per the report, the free software is available on GitHub, but requires users to supply their own copy of the game's data.

The recompiled version is based on the 3D platformer where players control the Simpsons family, each with unique abilities. Homer can gain powers from food, Bart transforms into Bartman, Lisa uses the Hand of Buddha, Marge rallies a mob, and Maggie crawls through vents.

The PC port brings significant technical upgrades. The game now runs at 60 frames per second in gameplay, doubled from the original 30 FPS. It also features enhanced graphical options like supersampling, anti-aliasing, and better texture filtering.

Improved support for mouse and keyboard controls is included, and the project is reportedly compatible with handheld PCs like the Steam Deck, running close to 60 FPS on the go.
