The Witcher 3 Remastered gets quick patch after complaints it's too bright

The freshly released Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is getting a quick tune-up after players flooded forums with complaints that the game looks way too bright and washed out.
According to reports from Eurogamer and GameSpot, developer CD Projekt Red has already pushed out a patch for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, as well as the PC Xbox Play Anywhere edition. The update makes what the studio vaguely calls "various lighting adjustments."
Player backlash was swift following the free upgrade's launch. Eurogamer notes that many took to social media to call the new lighting "lifeless," with one user demanding a way to revert to the older version on console. Side-by-side comparisons showed a notably brighter image with less contrast, which many attributed to an aggressive bloom effect.
Per Eurogamer's reporting, the bloom setting can be switched off on PC, but console players have been stuck with it. The new path tracing and HDR options also seem to be cranking the brightness up even further for some setups.
The patch isn't the only fix in the works. CD Projekt Red also mentioned a planned hotfix for a PC save-game issue and confirmed it's investigating other bugs players have reported.
The free remaster, which also sets the stage for a new expansion next year, has still found plenty of fans who think the game looks better than ever. But for those who felt blinded, relief is now rolling out.
