The Witcher 4 Gets Official 2028 Release Target From CD Projekt Red

The Witcher 4 Gets Official 2028 Release Target From CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red has finally given fans a concrete timeline for the next Witcher game. In a new video, joint-CEO Michal Nowakowski confirmed the studio is targeting a 2028 release for The Witcher 4, per VGC.

Nowakowski said over 500 developers are working on the project, which he called the studio's "biggest, boldest and most ambitious game to date." He described it as a new saga led by Ciri, featuring a huge open world and action-packed gameplay. While he acknowledged the wait, he promised it "will be worth the wait," according to the report.

Eurogamer notes that this 2028 date is a target and could still slip. The update came ahead of Gamescom, where the studio clarified it will not be showing The Witcher 4.

Instead, CD Projekt Red's Gamescom presence will focus on the new Witcher 3 expansion, Songs of the Past. The studio plans to show off the DLC's dark story and new continent, as reported by Eurogamer. The expansion will star Geralt, not Ciri.

CD Projekt Red also teased it has "a surprise or two" planned for the event, though specifics were not revealed. GameSpot reported the same tease, noting the surprises are for things other than The Witcher 4.
