The Witcher 4 will get a physical box even if there's no disc
The next Witcher game will still offer something tangible for collectors when it launches, even if Sony stops making PlayStation discs by then.
CD Projekt Red joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed the plan in an interview with The Game Business, per IGN. He stated the studio has no control over Sony's reported 2028 phase-out of physical disc production, but they are committed to putting out a boxed edition.
Nowakowski explained that discs for platforms like PlayStation must be made in the first-party factories. If manufacturing stops, the game won't include a disc. The CEO admitted, "We don’t know what’s going to be the case."
Despite that uncertainty, the studio intends to create a collector-friendly package. Nowakowski said the team, being self-described nerds, are big supporters of tangible items. He promised the release would include a box with physical extras inside for fans to open and enjoy.
The Witcher 4 does not have a confirmed release date, but past statements have pointed to a potential 2028 launch, which aligns with Sony's timeline.
