Tom Cruise's 'Digger' Eyes Weak Opening, Could Be Major Bomb
Tom Cruise's latest big swing is shaping up to be a major miss. According to a report from /Film, the $125 million comedy 'Digger' is currently tracking for a $20 to $29 million opening weekend.
That's a troubling start for a film starring Cruise and directed by Oscar-winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu. The outlet notes the film's first critical reactions have been mixed, which could hurt its chances with casual audiences after opening weekend.
The film faces stiff competition, opening against 'Verity,' which is projected for a similar opening but with a much lower budget. 'Digger' stars Cruise as Digger Rockwell, the world's most powerful man on a frantic mission to prove he's humanity's savior.
Per /Film, Warner Bros. needs the film to at least match the $213 million global haul of last year's Oscar-winning bomb 'One Battle After Another' to save face. For true success, it would need to reach roughly $312 million worldwide.
This potential flop adds to a rough 2026 for Warner Bros., which has seen several high-profile releases like 'Supergirl' and 'Mortal Kombat II' underperform. 'Digger' arrives in theaters on October 2, 2026.
