Tom Cruise's Digger loses IMAX screens after disastrous $20 million debut

Collider reports that Tom Cruise's latest film, 'Digger', is already being pulled from IMAX theaters following a dismal opening weekend. The movie earned a paltry $20 million globally, with only $8 million coming from North America, where it placed fifth.

The black comedy, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, is making way for Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey', which returns to IMAX screens starting October 9. Per Collider, some IMAX venues will still show 'Digger' alongside Nolan's film, but losing the premium-format screens deals another financial blow.

The troubles extend beyond the box office. The film's scheduled release in Hong Kong and Macau was abruptly canceled. According to Collider, unnamed speculation suggests content concerning China might be to blame, though local authorities have provided no official explanation.

With a reported production budget between $125 million and $150 million before marketing, 'Digger' is on track to lose a massive amount of money unless audience interest sees a dramatic and unlikely turnaround.
