Tom Cruise to get AFI Life Achievement Award in 2027

Tom Cruise is set to be this year's AFI Life Achievement Award recipient, per reports from Variety and TheWrap.

The American Film Institute will honor the star at a gala event at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on April 24, 2027. The organization considers the award its highest honor for a film career.

AFI Board of Trustees chair Kathleen Kennedy called Cruise a "global icon" in a statement obtained by both outlets. She praised his "deep belief in movies and their ability to bring people together."

The award is given annually to a single honoree. Last year's recipient was Eddie Murphy.

Cruise's recent film work includes a role in Alejandro González Iñárritu's latest project, 'Digger.' He is also attached to star in a new 'Days of Thunder' film set for 2028.
