Tom Hanks Eyes Lead Role in Warner Bros. Adaptation of Bestseller Theo of Golden
Warner Bros. is reportedly close to a deal for the movie rights to the novel Theo of Golden, with Tom Hanks circling the starring part, according to Deadline's reporting via JoBlo.
The book, a debut by author Allen Levi, is a quiet character study about an 86-year-old man named Theo who moves to a small Georgia town. After finding a collection of pencil portraits of locals in a café, he buys them all and begins delivering each drawing to its subject, listening to their stories.
The story deals with themes of memory, art, and hidden grief as Theo's own personal history is slowly revealed. The novel was published last October and has sold over 3.5 million copies in the US alone.
With Hanks now potentially attached to play the lead, the project is gaining significant momentum in Hollywood ahead of the fall festival season.
