VisionQuest Puts Paul Bettany and James Spader on the Run With His Speedster Son

The new Disney+ show 'VisionQuest' has arrived and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s a mixed bag of heartfelt moments and convoluted lore.
The series, a follow-up to 'WandaVision', finds Paul Bettany's synthezoid Vision living undercover as a bartender in Edinburgh. He's haunted by the implanted memories of his past life but can't truly feel them.
His quiet existence is shattered when a bounty hunter named Paladin comes for him. This forces Vision to go on the run with an 18-year-old grifter named Thomas, played by Ruaridh Mollica, who is revealed to be the reincarnation of his super-speedster son.
Per the review, the show is at its best when exploring the father-son relationship between Vision and Thomas. Bettany and Mollica's chemistry provides touching and humorous moments. A surprising subplot also involves James Spader's Ultron, now imprisoned in Vision's mind, flirting with another synthetic being named Jocasta, played by T'Nia Miller.
However, The Hollywood Reporter notes the series often gets bogged down explaining its own complicated backstory, which can feel exhausting. The show also features other AI characters like J.A.R.V.I.S. and F.R.I.D.A.Y. living in a digital mindspace.
Created by Terry Matalas, 'VisionQuest' premieres on Disney+ on October 14.
