Walton Goggins Joins Miami Vice Remake as Villain

Walton Goggins is trading the post-apocalyptic West for the neon-soaked streets of 1980s Miami. According to Deadline, he's been officially cast in the upcoming film reboot "Miami Vice '85."

While his exact role hasn't been confirmed, sources tell the outlet he's expected to play a henchman working for a cartel kingpin portrayed by John Leguizamo. This would add another memorable antagonist to Goggins's resume, following his acclaimed turn as The Ghoul in Prime Video's "Fallout."

The project is a new take on the classic NBC series and is being directed by Joseph Kosinski, the filmmaker behind "Top Gun: Maverick." Dan Gilroy, known for his work on "Andor," is writing the script. Per MovieWeb, the film will draw from the original show's pilot and examine a world of flashy excess shadowed by criminal dealings.

Goggins joins a star-studded lineup led by Austin Butler as Sonny Crockett and Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs. The supporting cast includes Edi Gathegi, Danny Ramirez, and Alden Ehrenreich.

"Miami Vice '85" is scheduled to hit theaters on May 19, 2028, and will be filmed for IMAX.
