Warner Bros is leaning into the polarizing response to Tom Cruise's new movie. According to Variety, the studio released an ad for 'Digger' that tells audiences to "decide for yourself." The spot flashes contradictory quotes like "Masterpiece" paired with "Unpleasant," and "Brilliant" next to "Baffling."
The Hollywood Reporter confirms the reviews are brutally split. The outlet notes positive takes call the film "audacious, risky, terrific fun," while the negative ones are scathing, with one calling it "the worst movie of Tom Cruise's career."
Per THR, the film stars Cruise as a wealthy oil magnate whose Arctic excavation triggers a potential global ecological catastrophe. He then races to position himself as the world's rescuer. The cast includes Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, and John Goodman.
The outlet compiled several harsh critiques. One review cited by THR called the climate satire "smug and bombastic," describing the experience as a "bludgeoning ordeal." Another said Cruise's performance wasn't good, even as a caricature, and that audiences would want to leave quickly.
However, not all was negative. A different review highlighted in THR praised the cinematography and production design, calling Cruise "riveting." Another called the film a thrillingly alive and ambitious satire designed to spark arguments.
