Wild Horse Nine Gets 13-Minute Venice Ovation, Malkovich Fights Tears
Martin McDonagh's new film 'Wild Horse Nine' received a rapturous welcome at its world premiere, per Variety. The Venice Film Festival audience gave the movie a 13-minute standing ovation on Thursday night.
John Malkovich, who stars in the film, was visibly emotional during the lengthy applause, fighting back tears according to the report. His co-star Sam Rockwell was also in attendance.
The Hollywood Reporter notes the film features a stacked cast of character actors. Alongside Rockwell and Malkovich, the movie also stars Steve Buscemi, Tom Waits, and Parker Posey.
The story is set in the 1970s amid the towering Moai statues of Easter Island. The reception at Venice has immediately positioned the film as a major contender in the upcoming awards season.
