Wildwood trailer reveals Laika's stop-motion rescue mission for 2026
Laika Studios has released the trailer for its upcoming animated film 'Wildwood,' and the first look is packed with stunning, detailed visuals. Per /Film, the story follows teenager Prue McKeel, voiced by Peyton Elizabeth Lee, and her classmate Curtis, played by Jacob Tremblay, as they venture into a magical forest to rescue Prue's infant brother after he is taken by crows.
The crows act on behalf of a grieving mother named Alexandra, voiced by Carey Mulligan, whose tragic backstory drives the plot. JoBlo notes the trailer uses a somber cover of 'Wake Me Up' to underscore the emotional stakes as Prue and Curtis become entangled in a conflict threatening the enchanted wilderness.
The voice cast is stacked with notable talent. According to both outlets, it includes Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Awkwafina, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Tom Waits, and Richard E. Grant, among others.
Directed by Laika co-founder Travis Knight from a script by Chris Butler, the film adapts Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis' 2011 novel. The trailer suggests the studio's signature intricate stop-motion animation will be on full display.
'Wildwood' is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 23, 2026.
