Writer confirms Richard Rider as Nova lead in upcoming Marvel movie
The long-gestating solo project for Marvel hero Nova is officially a movie, and we finally know who the star will be. According to a report from MovieWeb, writer Michael Waldron has indicated that Richard Rider will be the central character in the film.
Waldron, who developed Loki and is also working on the next two Avengers films, spoke with The Wrap. While he was cagey on specifics, he expressed his love for the character and named Richard Rider specifically.
When asked about his favorite story for the character, Waldron pointed to the 2006 Annihilation comic event. He also hinted that the film would address a major event from the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe, per MovieWeb.
The outlet notes that the Nova Corps was destroyed in an earlier Avengers film. This opens a clear path for Rider's origin, as he is often depicted as the last surviving member of the corps in the comics.
Originally planned as a Disney+ series, the project was shifted to a theatrical release last year. Waldron is writing the script, but no release date has been announced.
