Xbox Disc-to-Digital Program Goes Live for All Console Owners

Xbox's long-awaited disc-to-digital conversion feature is now officially available for everyone. After roughly a month in testing with Xbox Insiders, the program has rolled out to all owners of Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, per GameSpot and Eurogamer.
The feature lets users convert physical game discs into permanent digital licenses. According to Microsoft, it works with "most" Xbox One and Xbox Series X games, though not every title is eligible. Xbox notes that eligibility can change over time due to licensing, publishing, and technical factors.
Here's how it works: when you insert a compatible disc, the console will offer the option to convert it. Once done, the digital license is tied to your account, so you no longer need the disc in the drive to play.
A neat trick, reported by Eurogamer, is that the digital license moves with the disc. This means you can sell or give away your physical copy, and the new owner can then claim their own digital license, which revokes yours. This setup blends the flexibility of digital with the tradability of physical media.
The release version also includes a new setting to stop discs from automatically installing games, useful for converting multiple discs in a row. For games that support Xbox Play Anywhere, the newly acquired digital license will also allow you to download and play on PC.
