Xolo Maridueña Says James Gunn Personally Called to Bring Blue Beetle Back
Xolo Maridueña thought his time as Blue Beetle might be over after the 2023 film. That changed with a surprise phone call from DC Studios co-head James Gunn, as reported by Variety.
Maridueña said he was on a trip in Japan when Gunn called. He described having to leave his friends to take the call, which was about joining the upcoming DCU sequel "Superman: Man of Tomorrow."
The actor told Variety he felt uncertain about returning after his solo movie, calling the chance to come back "humbling." He noted that nothing in Hollywood is guaranteed, but he's grateful to Gunn and the DC team for including the character.
"Man of Tomorrow" will feature David Corenswet returning as Superman, teaming up with Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor to fight the villain Brainiac. The cast also includes Isabela Merced and Milly Alcock.
Maridueña shared these details while attending the premiere for "Practical Magic 2," where he also stars.
