Set in South Jamaica, Queens, in 1991, this prequel to "Power" revolves around the coming of age of Kanan Stark.

Most people find it a solid but uneven watch. The acting, especially Patina Miller as the formidable Raq, is almost universally praised as the show's main strength. However, the story and key characters like Kanan Stark himself (played by Mekai Curtis) and his mother Raq generate a lot of frustration, with many finding them unlikable or their decisions maddening. While the 90s Queens setting works, the overall feeling is that this prequel can't quite escape the shadow of its own leads' polarizing journeys.
