Bailee Madison's performance as Leah carries this rom-com, but the premise — Leah accepting her grandma Gigi's challenge to go on 40 dates for a year's rent — feels predictable to most. People found the story itself a bit tired, landing in a solidly mixed zone where the charm of the cast, including Annie Potts as the meddling grandma, can't quite overcome a plot they've seen before.
