A24 Hit 'Backrooms' Sets HBO Max Streaming Date for September
The horror hit 'Backrooms' is heading to HBO Max. According to Variety, the A24 film will be available to stream starting September 25.
MovieWeb reports the movie will also debut on the linear HBO channel the following day, September 26. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve and is based on director Kane Parsons's viral web series about unsettling, empty spaces.
Per MovieWeb, the studio is in talks with Parsons about a potential follow-up. The outlet notes that while a 'Backrooms 2' has not been officially announced, there have been discussions about continuing the story, possibly as a new film or a television series.
The original report states Parsons previously dismissed rumors about searching for a new screenwriter for a sequel. The filmmaker is reportedly interested in expanding the 'Backrooms' concept.
