The CW's All American tackled its series finale Monday night, delivering a wave of happy endings for its characters, per TVLine. After a tense birth sequence, Olivia James safely delivered twins, and Spencer James convinced his NFL team to trade him to Los Angeles so his family could stay home.
A six-year time jump revealed the rest of the ensemble's fates. Amina helped her father win a council seat, Khalil began medical school, and Coop was sworn in as a lawyer. Jordan became a championship high school coach, and he and Layla had a daughter.
Showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll told TVLine she always envisioned Spencer having an NFL career and a family, with Coop becoming a lawyer and Jordan finding his legacy. The plan to bring Spencer's family back to LA evolved as the final season was crafted.
The finale's closing scene featured Spencer and Jordan reflecting on their lives on the South Crenshaw High football field. As they walked off, a cameo showed the late Billy Baker watching from the sidelines, beaming with pride.
Carroll said the idea to include Billy, played by Taye Diggs, solidified after the character's death, wanting to show he was always with 'his boys.' She called the moment the 'big' finale scene she had previously teased, and Diggs quickly agreed to return.
