Big Little Lies Season 3 filmed for one day to keep a tax credit

Season 3 of HBO's 'Big Little Lies' saw a single day of filming, according to an exclusive report from Variety. The production shot for just one day at a Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, with recurring star Merrin Dungey on set.

Insiders told Variety that the brief shoot was conducted to secure a previously approved California state tax credit, which requires principal photography to begin within a set window. Full production on the new season is not slated to begin until next year.

A director has not been officially confirmed for the season. However, sources indicated the person overseeing the one-day shoot was a director already affiliated with the series and cleared by the Directors Guild.

Author Liane Moriarty published a new novel in the 'Big Little Lies' universe last August, which is expected to form the basis for the upcoming season's storyline.
