Bungie Promises Destiny Return, Vows To Restore Vaulted Destiny 2 Content
Bungie has declared it is "absolutely not done with Destiny," per IGN, just months after ending major support for Destiny 2. In a new video and website post, the studio's leadership addressed the player community directly, stating they need to earn back lost trust.
According to reports from IGN and VGC, the first step is a major restoration project. Bungie plans to bring back vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids, making them available to all players. The studio acknowledged that removing this content damaged player trust and enjoyment.
The work won't be simple. As VGC reports, changes made to the game since the Beyond Light expansion mean the studio must update lighting, encounters, and combatants for the old content. Bungie cautioned this process will take time.
Leadership also addressed the studio's other major project, Marathon. According to VGC, Bungie stated the extraction shooter "was never intended to replace Destiny" but admitted it "did not reach as many players as we had hoped." The studio plans to evolve Marathon beyond its current genre constraints.
The announcements follow a difficult period for Bungie, which included significant layoffs and the controversial end of Destiny 2's live service model earlier this year. The studio's message concluded by promising "new Destiny stories and games" for the future.
