Capcom's New Onimusha Game Climbs to Top Spot on Steam Charts
A new action game from Capcom has rocketed up the Steam sales charts over its launch weekend.
According to Polygon, Onimusha: Way of the Sword debuted at No. 6 on Steam on its first day, where it reportedly saw 40,000 active players. The outlet notes that this was a strong opening, especially while competing against another new release, The Blood of Dawnwalker.
Just a day later, the game surged to become the No. 1 top seller on the Steam platform. The report states it beat out titles like Halloween: The Game and WARDOGS to claim the top spot.
On Saturday, SteamDB recorded the player count for Onimusha: Way of the Sword had climbed to 74,575 active users. The game marks Capcom's first mainline return to the Onimusha franchise since 2006's Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.
Polygon's coverage included some critical reaction to the title. The outlet's own reviewer, Giovanni Colantoni, described the game as "a battle worth surviving," but criticized what he called routine fights and recycled bosses. Meanwhile, IGN's Will Borger was quoted offering high praise, saying there are moments where "the controller falls away" and "there is nothing but move and counter move."
